There is always so much that happens in June, like graduations and weddings, moves to new parts and new starts, as well as lots of sports and local festivals. In the life of the Church, June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and meditation on the love of Jesus for each of us. We respond, hopefully, with a big “yes” to Our Lord’s love for us, reflected in the act of consecration of ourselves, our homes and families, and even our nation to the Heart of Jesus. I participated in a home consecration on the feast of the Sacred Heart (June 12) as well as followed the consecration of the USA on its 250th birthday.
June is also a month that many people connected with Opus Dei celebrate the Dies Natalis (birthday into eternal life) of Saint Josemaria Escriva, the founder of Opus Dei. He died around 12 noon on June 26th, 1975, at his home in Rome after Mass and a brief meeting with women numerary members. His heart gave out after many years of service to Jesus, and it makes me think how the saints’ hearts beat according to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Yuma Center in Washington DC asked me to give a virtual meditation on the life of Saint Josemaria, which always thrived in a family context. That’s why I titled the meditation, “Saint Josemaria: family man”. Fr. Mark offers a mediation at the beginning on the Sacred Heart and Christina gives a talk on Eucharistic devotion.
