During a recent Mass in honor of St. Josemaria I gave a homily and discovered (at least in my own case) how important it is to respond quickly to the inspirations God sends us to follow Jesus and carry out the personal mission he entrusts to us. This year we were blessed to celebrate the June 26th feast day Mass at the Church of St. Lawrence the Martyr on the south side of San Antonio. As usual, we used St. Luke’s gospel account of the calling of the other earliest disciples. Even though he knew himself to be a sinner, Simon-Peter and the others trusted the Lord and his call to follow the Way, Truth and Life. We don’t really know how old the Apostles were, but I imagine them as relatively young and pre-medical-special-diet-team strong. In fact, think that at a rather young age, say 15-23 (high-school through early grad-school) we are perhaps more capable of receiving Jesus’ invitation, and to basically follow him (of course according to our life situation). We actually begin this by following him in our hearts, and then follow through with our life plans and action. Check out the audio snippet below emphasizing the drama of hearing and following Jesus.
